Wall Decorations

In the new apartment the couch makeover is complete, and now we're on to filling the very unexciting, standard all-white apartment walls. We got the inspiration for this project by melding two ideas - one from Martha Stewart and another from Better Homes & Gardens.

First, we (my roommate Erin is pictured below!) painted the edges of artist canvases with a selection of acrylic paints.

Then we used Mod Podge to adhere a 12" x 12" sheet of scrapbook paper to each of the canvases.

Meanwhile, I used my Cricut machine to cut various bird shapes from solid-colored papers.

We adhered the birds and did a final coating of Mod-Podge.

It's amazing what hanging art on the walls can do for a blank space. It really helped to close up the expansive feeling of our living and dining room, and really gave this empty space a purpose.

Anyone watch Portlandia? I had a good friend bring this clip to my attention when she saw our new decor:

Hilarious! But we love our birds.
